Founded in 1714 as a small holiday village and fishing harbour, the Strand is famous for its magnificent beaches. The 5km sweep of silver sand, with its mountain backdrop and panoramic views across False Bay is one of the most beautiful coastlines in the Cape.

Explore scenic wine routes, fynbos nature reserves and the Western Cape coastline, which is renowned for the regular visits which migrating whales make to the warm waters of False Bay. The Strand is an outdoor and sports lovers' paradise, offering something for everyone, be it sunbathing, swimming, surfing or sailing, and the warm waters of False Bay are a haven for fishermen. There are a number of world-class golf courses right on our doorstep and, all around, the mountains that ring Somerset-Strand are mapped with hiking trails.
